Press Release:

To All Press for immediate release:

Several hours ago, Chinese dissident Wang Youchai, a former student leader and political prisoner, were arrested by the Chinese communist government because of his exercising the rights of freedom of association according to Chinese Constitution by organizing  Chinese Democratic Party. Spokesperson of Free China Movement Shengde Lian, who was the captain of Tiananmen Square movement in 1989 and former jail mate of Mr. Wang strongly condemn Chinese government's serious violation of Human Rights in China again!

Washington DC, just a few hours ago, Free China Movement Washington Office was told by our mainland China contacts that Mr. Wang Youchai, a former student leader on the most wanted list in 1989 and former political prisoner with me in Qing Chen Prison was arrested because his involvement in organizing Chinese Democratic Party just a few hours before President Clinton's arrival in Xian on June 24. This is the fist time in China's 50 years history under Communist rule in China that the Chinese dissidents organize and try to register in the authority an opposition party openly. In open their statement they said, "All political powers must come from the public and serve the public. So the Chinese government must be elected by the people. The party called for direct election of the government to realize constitutional democracy and get rid of the soil for political dictatorship and corruption." Mr .Wang's arrest is another case of the illegal arrest of former student leader and activist. For example, Mr. Zhao Changqing, was arrested in March because of he tried to stand election as the delegation to the people's Congress in January and Mr. Guo Haifeng were sentenced to 6 years in 1996 after serving four years in jail in 1993 because of his leadership in 1989 in Beijing.

I believe this arrest is a demonstration of President Clinton's "constructive engagement" with Communist Government in China is a total failure. Trying to be friend of Chinese dictator without the condition of requiring the respect of Human rights will help the CCP to strength it's dictatorship over Chinese people thus help the dictatorship in Beijing directly.

We call for President Clinton must tell the Chinese government now that they must release Mr. Wang now unconditionally or he should cancel his rest schedule in China to show his strong protest of Chinese government's manipulation and play with him which tells a very wrong message to the Chinese people that USA is appeasing with the dictator in Beijing and thus greatly hurt Chinese people's hope on America's moral responsibility.

We also urge President Clinton please kindly express your great concerns on the fate of the following gentlemen by raising their names to Her Excellency Madeleine Albright, urging her to raise the issue in China:

1. Mr. Hu, Shigen
(Sentenced to 20 years in December 1994, for allegedly organizing and leading "counter-revolutionary organization ["the Party for Freedom and Democracy in China]" and leading "counter-revolutionary propaganda" by Beijing Intermediate People's Court.  Mr. Hu will serve his sentence until May 2012 AD accordingly.)
2. Mr. Kang, Yuchun
(Sentenced to 17 years in December 1994, for allegedly organizing and leading "counter-revolutionary organization ["the Party for Freedom and Democracy in China]" and leading "counter-revolutionary propaganda" by Beijing Intermediate People's Court.  Mr. Kang will serve his sentence until May 2009, AD, accordingly.)

3. Mr. Liu, Jingsheng (Sentenced to 15 years in December 1994, for allegedly organizing and leading "counter-revolutionary organization ["the Party for Freedom and Democracy in China]" and leading "counter-revolutionary propaganda" by Beijing Intermediate People's Court.  Mr. Liu will serve his sentence until May 2007, AD, accordingly.)

4. Mr. Wang, Guoqi (Sentenced to 11 years in December 1994, for allegedly organizing and leading "counter-revolutionary organization ["the Party for Freedom and Democracy in China]" by Beijing Intermediate People's Court.  Mr. Wang will serve his sentence until May 2007, AD.)

We will be very grateful should you extend your great humanitarian compassion to these prisoners of conscience during your PRC trip. "In this Symbolic month of June, I, the democratically elected the President of the United States, would like to pay homage to
those sons and daughters of Chinese People, who dedicated their lives at and around this symbolic Square, and to all those who perished in the half century darkness of irrational violence, in
their heroic and relentless pursuit for freedom, justice and democracy, the common value of civilization of all mankind. By taking this opportunity, I would also like to express my solemn
condolence to the loved ones of those who are murdered for their dreams before, during and after 1989 June fourth tragedy. May these immortal souls be rest in peace! May their dreams finally
and inevitably become true."

Respectfully yours,
Shengde Lain, Wang Xizhe, Joel Segal
