Press Release:
To All Press for immediate release:
Correction Notice: The planned protest in front of the White house starting at 10:00 AM June 24 had been canceled due to that we decided we should give President Clinton the chance to seriously consider the requests and voices from Chinese dissidents inside and outside China and choose the best way he can toreally help the Chinese people, not the Chinese government!
Sponsor: The Washington Office of Free China Movement, A Coalition of Chinese Dissident Groups in and Out of communist occupied China. The co-sponsor of the Free China Movement, Mr. Harry Wu joined the protest in front of the White House, and delivered the speech to the press there.
At the eve of President Clinton's trip to the "People's Republic", the Washington Office for the Free China Movement held a protest, requesting President Clinton to strongly raise human rights issues while he meet the communist dictators in Beijing. The protesters organized by Free china Movement raised the awareness of the arising of the "national socialism of Chinese character" in the East hemisphere, the Chinese totalitarianism.
The protesters called for the President to meet the leaders of the dissident community in China while he is there. The Free China movement also requests Mr. Clinton to reverse the declaration of "strategic partnership" with the communist People's Republic. The protesters also called that all financial assistance from IMF and the public private sectors to the communist China should be conditioned with demand for the PRC's government's respect of human rights and the time table for institutional democratization.
10 nationally prominent dissident leaders, as the members of FCM, including Xu Wenli, Lin Muchen, delivered their recorded speech via Free China Movement during the protest.
Earlier, the Free China Movement's request for a dissident deligation to join the President's China Deligation along with Fortune Five Hundred Multinationals was rejected.
Spokespersons for the Free China Movement, Mr. Shengde Lian, one of
the top Tian An men Square Student leaders and Mr. Joel Segal joined the
Congressional Press Conference at 10:30 AM and delivered the speech.
Two letters addressed to President Clinton from Free China Movement
were sent to the White House through fax and read to the Press.
For further information, please call Shengde Lian at 703-645-9054.
