STATEMENT BY THE CHINA DEMOCRACY PARTY TO THE UN COMMISSION ON HUMAN RIGHTS IN SUPPORT OF THE US-SPONSORED RESOLUTION CONDEMING CHINA’S ESCALATING HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATIONS

GENEVA-- The China Democracy Party (CDP) wishes to convey its unequivocal support for the resolution to be tabled by the US government next week in Geneva at the UN Commission on Human Rights, which condemns China for its continuing human rights abuses. China’s escalating violations of universal rights against the members of the CDP and various religious groups within China, mark yet another dark period in China’s history.

This cannot go on.

The rising tide of human rights rights abuses breach both the spirit and letter of UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. Therefore, the hour has come for the UN Commission on Human Rights to rise above politics and, above all, economics, and vote against China’s likely "no-action motion", and to vote for the US-sponsored resolution.

If the UN Commission fails to vote in support of the US resolution, the credibility of the Commission may well hang in the balance. For a Commission that refuses to act after such a long season of political and religious oppression in China, demonstrates not its commitment to the protection and defense of human rights, but to the self-interests of national governments. The world must not be left without an effective mechanism to defend the rights of the individuals.

As the conscience of the world, as the voice for humanity, the UN Commission must speak out on behalf of all those denied their fundamental freedoms and human dignity. It must give voice to the voiceless.
